NE OH Chapter of The Cure Starts Now(CSN) sponsored Ticket Raffle in honor of Kasey Mikes begins on April 1st 2019. Participants can purchase paper tickets or go on line to purchase any quantity of tickets desired. If you buy on line, your name will be put on a paper ticket for the final drawing. To buy a paper ticket, local volunteers will be selling them until Saturday, Sept. 14th, 2019 at our 4th Annual Bocce Social Fundraiser where 3 winners will be chosen.
Since our inception in May 2016, this Chapter of CSN has focused on the foundation’s mission to “educate, raise awareness and funding for pediatric brain cancer research” starting with the biggest bully with the highest mortality rate, DIPG. Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma strikes 300-400 children and young adults per year. The average age is 6 years and only 1% survive. No new treatments have been developed in over 60 years. Our researchers believe finding the cure to this rare childhood cancer will lead to a Homerun cure, for all cancers, both pediatric and adult.
About Kasey
"Kasey was diagnosed with DIPG August 21, 2016 at the age of 10 years old. She was feeling dizzy, light headed and after 3 Trips to 3 different Emergency rooms, 1 urgent care visit, and 1 family doctor visit, each one thought it was a sinus infection. After antibiotics, Kasey was not getting better, so we took her to Akron Children's Hospital and within 12 hours received the DIPG diagnosis. Kasey underwent 30 rounds of radiation therapy at Akron General. She took chemotherapy orally, at home while doing the radiation.
Kasey bravely fought DIPG for a year and passed away on August 27, 2018 at 11 years old. She was a brave, funny, loving little girl. She loved Art, Cheerleading, swimming, Singing, dancing, and her family and friends meant the world to her. A gentle soul who loved to be silly and cuddle, Kasey was a twin sister to Caleigh who is currently 13.
